How to pass ACT driving test first time?
Getting your driver licence in the ACT is an exciting milestone. Whether you're a new driver just starting out or moving to Canberra from elsewhere, understanding the requirements is the first step. Access Canberra has a straightforward process to guide you from your Learners to your Full licence. Getting Your Learner Licence In the ACT, you can start your driving journey from 15 years and 9 months old . To get your Learner licence, you need to complete a Pre-Learner Licence Course and pass the ACT Road Rules Knowledge Test. These are offered through ACT-approved training providers. Once you have passed, you visit an Access Canberra Service Centre to: • Complete an eye test • Provide proof of identity and residency • Pay the licence fee You will be given a logbook and 'L' plates on the spot, and your physical licence card will be mailed to you. Progressing to Your Provisional Licence (Ps) To move from your Ls to your Ps, you must meet three key requirements: 1. Hold your Learner Licence for the required period: • 12 months (for drivers under 25) • 6 months (for drivers 25 or older) 2. Complete the online Hazard Perception Test: You can attempt this after holding your Ls for 3 months. Your first attempt is free. 3. Complete your supervised driving hours: • Under 25: 100 hours (including 10 hours of night driving) • 25 or older: 50 hours (including 5 hours of night driving) Bonus: You receive 3 hours credit for every 1 hour driven with an ACT Accredited Driving Instructor (first 10 hours credit only which will be 30 hours logbook hours). The Driving Assessment Two Pathways: You have two options to get your Ps: 1. Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A): Complete training and assessment with an accredited driving instructor. If you pass, you don't need to take a government practical driving test. 2. One-off Practical Driving Assessment: Book a test directly with an ACT Government Licence Examiner.
